Dhafer AbuHetlahi

Vice President , Technical Services,

Dhafer has 25 years of experience in Fertilizers, Petrochemical, Infrastructure and Mining Industries.

He has Master’s Degree in Business Administration, in addition to a Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering. He also serves on the Board of Ma’aden Gold and Base Metals Company.

Zaid Aljanabi

Principal Consultant,
CRU

Zaid joined CRU Consulting as principal consultant in 2017, bringing extensive experience
from the aluminium and nonferrous metals industry. He leads CRU’s global aluminium value
chain consulting practice area as Head of Aluminium Consulting.
Prior to CRU, Zaid spent several years at Emirates Global Aluminium (EGA) and its predecessor Emirates Aluminium (EMAL), where he managed market research activities and held various positions within marketing and sales, corporate strategy and finance. He previously worked in London for several years for a number of commodity-focused consultants as an analyst, where he also managed the precious and base metals research unit at Diapason Commodities Management. He began his commodities research career in 2002 as a global energy economist with AUPEC, an oil and gas consulting firm.
Zaid holds an MA in Economic Science from the University of Aberdeen and an MSc in Economics from the University of Amsterdam. Zaid is fluent in Arabic and French.

Diana France

Partner,
HFW

Diana France has over 30 years’ experience of advising on a broad range of international projects, with a focus on the energy industry. She advises national and international companies, contractors, insurers, financiers and other participants in the energy industry on a range of issues including mergers, acquisitions, joint ventures, financing and outsourcing. Diana’s expertise extends to energy transition, including carbon offsetting and emissions trading. Her broader work on Environmental, Social and Governance issues includes legal risk audits on a change of management team, risk analysis of a professional services organisation and policy-setting and establishment of competency frameworks and development programmes for the legal team of a major state company. Prior to joining HFW in 2001, Diana spent seven years in-house, as General Counsel for Dalkia, the UK energy division of Veolia and Senior Legal Adviser for the Former Soviet Union and Eastern Europe for British Gas Exploration and Production (now part of Shell).
Diana is recommended in Who’s Who Legal Diana France (whoswholegal.com) and has been recognised by Best Lawyers since 2009 Search | Best Lawyers. She was included in The Lawyer list of Hot 100 lawyers for 2015 and appears in the Energy section of Euromoney’s The World’s Leading Lawyers Chosen by Their Peers 2021 (and earlier editions). Diana has been Chairperson of the firm’s Community Investment Committee since 2016. She is a trustee of the charity Renewable World and chairs the Ethics Sustainability and Governance Committee of the charity.

Ghannam Al Ghannam

Vice President, Aluminum Sales & Marketing
Saudi Arabian Mining Company (Ma’aden)

Ghannam Abdullah Al-Ghannam has more than 20 years of experience in commercial, marketing and supply chain management in both Aluminum and Phosphate businesses. He joined Ma’aden in September 2007 and successfully held different leadership positions in the organization in Aluminum and Phosphate businesses.
In July 2022, Ghannam has been appointed as Vice President, Aluminum Sales & Marketing. He is currently managing all the sales and supply chain activities for Ma’aden Aluminum business worldwide. In addition, he is leading the marketing strategy and development of the Aluminum business.
Ghannam holds a BS degree in Electrical Engineering from King Fahd University of Petroleum & Minerals; has two master’s degree in Business Administration and in International Management and Leadership; and has Postgraduate Diploma in International Financial Management from Carson College of Business Washington State University. Also, has completed several leadership courses in MIT and Insead Business School.

Dr Eng Mahmoud Agour

Chief Executive Officer,
Egyptalum

Mr. Agour has received his B.Sc in Mining and Metallurgical Engineer from the Assuit University in Egypt. He also graduated from Al-Azhar University, Cairo, Egypt with an M.Sc in Mining and Metallurgical Engineering. He focused on his master degree on saving energy in aluminium electrolysis cell. His PhD was in Material Science at the Production Engineering and Mechanical Design department. During his PhD he was also the recipient of a scholarship from the Chonbuk National University, Jeonju, South Korea.

He has a rich and varied work experience in physical metallurgy at Egyptalum Company in the Research and Development department (R&D). He possesses extensive experience acquired over his sixteen years at the Aluminium Company of Egypt (Egyptalum). Before that, we worked as a project manager at Gippsland company (an Australian mining company). He further specialized through a Training program at Laval University, which was supported by ALCOA Aluminium Smelter from Deschambault, Quebec, Canada. He participated in several projects focusing on energy efficiency related to aluminium production and metallurgical science. Wanting to continuously expand his expertise, he has taken Training Courses in Project Management and Project Feasibility Studies. Besides that he worked as a Lecturer (material technology – physical metallurgy – material science – mechanical design ) at the Faculty of Energy Engineering – Aswan University. He also worked as an occupational health and safety inspector in Egyptalum smelter. He has an excellent experience in laboratory applications and equipment, especially in testing and characterization of different materials with exposure to process modelling and application.

Paul Williams

Head of Aluminium,
CRU

Paul Williams is the Group Manager for Aluminium, responsible for the research programme of the team. Mr Williams joined CRU in 1986 and for many years ran the Aluminium Semis and Downstream areas specialising in flat rolled product markets and demand analysis. A regular speaker at major aluminium events, he also contributes to aluminium association publications including those of the Aluminum Association and the Gulf Aluminium Council. Mr Williams has a MSc in Economics, London School of Economics. BA in Economics, University of Swansea.

Agnello Borim

Chief Operating Officer,
Sohar Aluminium

Mr. Agnello Borim is currently the Chief Operating Officer at Sohar Aluminium Company, a 395,000 tonnes per annum Aluminium Smelter, Power Plant and Port situated in Sohar, the industrial hub of the Sultanate of Oman.
Agnello has more than 30 years of experience working in large global companies in the metallurgical and mining sector while holding leadership positions including Vice President and Director in complex industrial facilities that included some of the largest producers of primary Aluminium in the world. These include Alcoa, Ma’aden, BHP Billiton, Murabeni, Chinalco and Rio Tinto.At Sohar Aluminium, Agnello is the custodian of the Productivity and Incremental Improvements Business focus area overseeing the development of their strategies and contributing to driving the overall strategy of the Company.
Agnello has an MBA from IBMEC Business School for Executive Education in Sao Paulo, and a bachelor’s degree in Metallurgical Engineering from the University of Metallurgy and Mines in Minas Gerais state in Brazil.

Christoph Eibl

CEO
Tiberius

Christoph is the founder and CEO of Tiberius Group AG, Zug (Switzerland). Prior, he held the position of Investment Banking, Vice President at Dresdner Bank/Dresdner Kleinwort Wasserstein, Frankfurt (Germany), were he was responsible for metals trading/sales, development of complex hedging structures for mining/commodity industry, consulting of central banks in their gold reserves. Before that he was Investment Banking, Associate at Baden-Wuerttembergische-Bank AG, Stuttgart (Germany) were he helped set up of a commodity trading desk (proprietary as well as flow driven) in commodities derivatives and structuring/product development of exchange listed products.
He started his career as Portfolio Management, Trainee at FDZ, Financial Consultants, Stuttgart (Germany).
Christoph holds a Bachelor of Arts with Honours degree (BA Hons), 2nd class, 1st grade Undergraduate Degree: in Economics from The Open University (OU), London (United Kingdom); has Diplom Betriebswirt (BA); Economist, from State University of Cooperative Education, Stuttgart (Germany); two master’s degree in Business Administration and in International Management from Cambridge University and University of Zurich.

Waleed Tamimi

Chief Supply Officer,
Aluminium Bahrain B.S.C. (Alba)

Waleed Tamimi holds the position of Chief Supply Officer of Aluminium Bahrain B.S.C (Alba) overseeing the departments of Procurement & Warehousing, Strategic Supply & Planning, Engineering, Operational Excellence, Metallurgy and Customer Technical Support. Prior to his present role, Waleed was the Chief Administration Officer and before that was the Director of Administration.

Within Alba, he successfully held the position of Senior Manager of Strategic Supply & Planning, charged with controlling the company’s procurement requirement of all major raw material and corresponding logistics. Moreover, Waleed was responsible for the management and development of Alba’s raw material and freight suppliers’ network in addition to managing all trading & selling initiatives for excess procured Alumina and surplus production of Calcined Petroleum Coke.

In 2013, Waleed served as Manager – Operational Excellence where he led the operational excellence initiatives alongside the continuous improvement strategy and roadmap. Moreover, Waleed was responsible for the development, establishment and initiation of an Enterprise Continuous Improvement and Cost Cutting Programme (Titan Programme), based on the Lean-Six Sigma methodology. The developed Programme is a company-wide philosophy aimed at improving quality, reducing lead time and bringing in sizable and sustainable cost reduction levels.

Prior to his tenure with Alba, he was General Manager of Business Improvement Group at Rezayat Group of Companies in Khobar, Saudi Arabia where he led a strategy building initiative at Rezayat Group.

Waleed holds an Executive MBA from the French Arabian Business School / ESSEC in addition to a BS and MS degrees in Industrial Engineering from Wichita State University in the USA. He is also a Certified Six Sigma Master Black Belt and Lean Manufacturing Sensei. Waleed has served for 25 years in different capacities for a number of companies in the USA and in the Middle East ranging from an Implementation Consultant in a software start-up company in San Jose, California to a Six Sigma Black Belt in a world-class Aircraft Manufacturer (Lear-Jet, Bombardier)

Abdullah Alghamdi

MRC President,
Ma’aden

Abdullah is President of Ma’aden Rolling Company since May 2021. Mechanical Engineer, EMBA graduate with first honor from KFUPM and senior leadership development program from INSEAD. Results oriented leader with more than +22 years of proven experience in the aluminum industry.
Prior to MRC, Abdullah was Vice President for Aluminum Smelter where a record of safety, reliability and production results were achieved in 3 consecutive years.

René von Kaenel

President & CEO,
KAN-NAK

René von Kaenel received his diploma of physicist from The Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Lausanne (EPFL) with a specialization in plasma physics before working for ICL in London and specializing in computer science. In 1981 he joined Alusuisse and became the head of the modeling activities for smelting technology. In 2000, he became Director of Electrolysis in the new ALCAN organization.
Over the years he participated in the optimization of numerous smelter technologies all over the world. In 2004 he created KAN-NAK Ltd., a company specialized for the optimization of the Hall-Héroult process. From 2004 to 2009 he was also President of MOLTECH SYSTEM Ltd, a company fully dedicated to the development of a metallic Inert Anodes. He has published many articles on electrolysis, inert anodes, and casting processes. He holds numerous Patents in the field.

Miles Prosser

Secretary General,
International Aluminium Institute

Miles Prosser is the Secretary General of the International Aluminium Institute (IAI), the only body that represents the aluminium industry at the global level. With more than twenty years’ experience working on various industry policy issues, Miles brings in-depth knowledge on resource allocation, sustainability and climate change.
Miles joined the IAI from the Australian Aluminium Council, where he served as Executive Director for more than ten years. He leads the IAI to promote the unique and valuable properties of aluminium in sustainable development. He holds an honours degree from the Australian National University. He is a member of the Institute of Directors in London.

Khalid A. Latif

Chief Marketing Officer
Aluminium Bahrain B.S.C. (Alba)

Khalid A. Latif was appointed as Chief Marketing Officer at Aluminium Bahrain B.S.C.(Alba) in September 2015, in line with Alba’s strategy to develop Bahraini nationals from within the company into key leadership positions. Khalid heads the following departments: Casthouse (Maintenance & Operations), Customer Service & Marketing Operations, Sales (all regions) and Alba Americas.
In his current role, Khalid leads the Company’s global marketing strategies to drive innovation across its business divisions, depending on the deep knowledge he has in both marketing and operations fields. He continuously increases Alba’s existing business and develops new markets to meet the Company’s growth targets.
Prior to his current executive role, in 2012, he was promoted to Manager of Engineering and then to Alba’s Marketing Manager for Customer Services & Marketing Operations. Khalid joined Alba as an apprentice in 1989 and worked in various operational areas including Power Station, Reduction Lines and Carbon Plant. He rose through the ranks and was promoted from Supervisor to Engineer followed by Superintendent.
An MBA from the French Arabian Business School/ESSEC (Bahrain), he holds a Bachelor of Science Degree (BSc.) in Electrical Engineering from Gulf University in Bahrain as well as a High National Diploma in Mechatronics from Abertay University, Dundee, UK. He also possesses a completion certificate for the Executive Education Programme in Strategic Sales Management from University of Chicago, USA.

Julian Kettle

Vice Chairman of Metals and Mining,
Wood Mackenzie

Julian brings over 30 years of experience in the analysis of the metals and mining industry to his current role as Senior Vice President, Vice Chair Metals and Mining, where he is responsible for senior stakeholder engagement and relationships. He is a recognised authority on the aluminium industry across the value chain from bauxite mining through to end-use analysis. His in-depth understanding of the key factors influencing the industry and issues that stakeholders face is of critical importance in his work providing strategic advice to clients.
Since joining Wood Mackenzie, he has carried out the role of Manager – Metal Market Services, Global Head of Metals Research, and Global Head of Metals and Mining Research. Julian travels extensively and regularly presents to senior industry and financial community stakeholders on our analysis across the value chain of the metals and mining space, covering aluminium, copper, lead, nickel, zinc, battery metals, iron ore, steel and coal. He also supports consulting assignments and specialises in market environment assessment, expert witness, raw materials sourcing, contract pricing, portfolio optimisation and strategic advisory relating to brownfield and greenfield investments in the metals and mining space.

Hugo Brodie

Vice President – Group CEO Office (Sustainability and Commodities Strategy),
London Metal Exchange

Hugo is Vice President for Sustainability at the London Metal Exchange. Prior to this he was driving the launch of new metal products undertaken by the Exchange. Hugo joined the LME in September 2015, having previously worked in Integrated Supply & Trading at BP in both trading and risk roles.

Abdulnasser Bin Kalban

Chief Executive Officer,
Emirates Global Aluminium (EGA)

Abdulnasser Ibrahim Saif Bin Kalban is Chief Executive Officer of Emirates Global Aluminium. Prior to his appointment as Chief Executive Officer in 2020, Mr. Bin Kalban had served as an Alternate Board Member of EGA since May 2017. He is a member of EGA’s Technical and Project Committee and its Finance and Commercial Committee. He also sits on the Board of Guinea Alumina Corporation (GAC), EGA’s bauxite mining subsidiary.

As Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Bin Kalban is responsible for managing EGA’s ongoing operations and business and reports to EGA’s Managing Director. Mr. Bin Kalban joined DUBAL in 1996 and worked in both Major Projects and the Power and Desalination Department. (DUBAL merged with EMAL to form EGA in 2014). In 2014, Mr Kalban left his position as General Manager of Power and Desalination at EGA to become CEO of Dubal Holding LLC, EGA’s 50 percent shareholder.
Mr Bin Kalban is a Board Member of the International Aluminium Institute and a Board Member of the Gulf Aluminium Council. Mr. Kalban has a bachelor degree in Electrical Engineering from Western Michigan University in the United States, and has completed Strategic Management and Leadership Courses at Insead Business School, France and Harvard Business School.

Enrique Sela

Bahrain Country Manager,
Aleastur

Bachelor in Mining Engineering by University of Oviedo in Spain, has more than twenty years of international experience in the primary and downstream aluminium industry in areas as production management, casthouse processes, operations and logistics. Having worked for Alcoa’s factories in Ma’aden (Saudi Arabia), San Ciprian and Aviles (Spain) in different management roles, joined Aleastur in 2016 as project manager for Middle East and from 2021 is Aleastur’s Country Manager.

Solimon Solimon

Soliman Soliman currently serves as partner and Director of Hydrocarbon division with Fishawy & Shazly Law firm. Formerly, he was the Vice-President-Legal with SPETCO International Petroleum Co., Vice-President-Legal with Gas & Oil Field service Co., the Snr. Consultant-Legal with Kuwait Oil Co. a subsidiary of Kuwait Petroleum Corp., General Counsel with Majid Al Futtaim Group, General Counsel-Intl. Banking Ops. with Oman International Bank. He has over 35 years litigation and arbitration experience advising national and multinational corporations on a diversity of industries.
His early10 years of practical experience on oil rigs as ast. Driller added to his knowledge on negotiation and reviewing industry contracts successfully.

Said Al Masoudi

CEO,
Sohar Aluminium

Engineer Said Al Masoudi is the Chief Executive Officer of Sohar Aluminium Company LLC, an aluminium smelter situated in Sohar, the industrial hub of the Sultanate of Oman. Eng. Said is a skilled executive and top-level leader with strong planning background and financial management skills along with diversified international experience in different industries covering Oil, Gas, Electricity, Metals, and Minerals.
He completed his school education at Sohar Secondary School and holds a Bachelor of Science (BSc.) degree in Petroleum and Mineral Engineering from Sultan Qaboos University, Oman. He went on to complete his Master of Science (MSc.) degree in Energy Studies from the Centre for Energy, Petroleum and Mineral Law and Policy at the University of Dundee, Scotland, United Kingdom.
Al Masoudi started his career in 1991 at the Ministry of National Economy as Assistant Researcher at the Directorate of Natural and Industrial Resources Planning where he grew in his career to become Director of Natural Resources and Energy Sectors Development. In 2005, he joined Oman Oil Company S.A.O.C as the Business Development Manager and was later promoted to Head of Business Development (Energy, Infrastructure, Power, and Shipping). He arrived at Sohar Aluminium in 2011 as the Deputy CEO & General Manager of Organisational Expansion before taking up the Acting CEO role in early 2013.
In December 2013, Said was appointed as Chief Executive Officer of Sohar Aluminium and in this capacity continues to lead the company to achieve significant milestones.
Said’s strengths lie in his business acumen nurtured through his extensive expertise, strategic vision, and wide-ranging experience that have resulted in significant achievements by the business under his leadership.

Hassan ElArdy

Vice President for Power systems for Northeast Africa and Levant,
Schneider Electric

Hassan is currently leading Schneider Electric as NEAL Power Systems VP, with more than 28 years of experience. Hassan is an innovative, profit-oriented Vice President with demonstrated success in increasing revenues, market share, and earnings. Creating and developing successful partnerships and market channels and achieving cost reductions.
Hassan has led SE to achieve the maximum results with effective planning, leading business, organizational transformation, and communication skills as well as a solutions-oriented approach to problem-solving solutions. After 2 years in OGP operations, he has joined Schneider Electric in 1995, since then he started leading the company to be one of the pioneers in the field of digital transformation & energy management solutions in NEAL. Previously Hassan has held different positions starting with the design office, moving to the project management, and then joining sales world where he could draw the main strategic policies inside SE to keep up with the market needs and trends.
As board member of Schneider Electric Distribution and one of the leadership team Schneider Electric NEAL Cluster; he led the company global direction to move forward more digitized Energy management and advisory company.
During this journey he has held the strategic move of Transactionalizing the power system activity all over the cluster to keep Schneider intimacy with key decision makers and executives all over the cluster presenting Schneider in most governmental and strategic events to sustain company leadership position in full coherence with the company profitable growth plans.
Hassan proudly succeeded to develop and incorporate pricing, sales and sales channel creation, development, customer service, cost reduction, and technological strategies. Yasin Kasirga

Yasin Kasirga covers Business Development activities for Decarbonization Strategy & Partnerships covering Europe, the Middle East, and Africa (EMEA) at GE Gas Power. He is leading the engagement with customers and partners, creating collaborative decarbonization solutions through a wide range of ready-to-deploy as well as innovative solutions spectrum supporting them to get positioned best for in a deeply decarbonized future of energy.
Yasin brings 17+ years of technical and commercial experience in strategy, business development, execution, marketing, and sales. He has been in roles with increasing responsibilities within GE leading sales for Wind and Hydro, leading Market Development for the Hybrids Business and leading Project Execution for Wind Projects covering the MENAT region. Prior to joining GE, he worked as Business Development and Sales Manager in charge of Gas, Hydro, Wind, Nuclear, Geothermal, and Renewable Steam Plants Businesses in Alstom Turkey following 8 years of Project Management and EPC experience with Gama Power and Calik Enerji, building industrial and power plants across Europe and Middle East. Yasin holds a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration and a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering with an Executive MBA from the Middle East Technical University. He is also a graduate of GE’s signature leadership development program (XLP).

Ali Al-Baqali

Chief Executive Officer,
Aluminium Bahrain B.S.C. (Alba)

Appointed as the CEO on 13 February 2020, Al Baqali has been part of the Alba family for
more than 2-decades and brings years of thought leadership and honed experience from
within the Company. Al Baqali joined Alba as a Purchasing Officer in 1998 then moved further
up the ranks to become Manager for Procurement (2010), Chief Financial Officer (2013),
Deputy CEO and Chief Supply Chain Officer (2017) and Acting CEO (2019). In his Executive
Management roles, Al Baqali has been instrumental in Alba’s landmark Line 6 Expansion
Project, especially in securing the US$3 billion financing for the Project and formulating
sourcing strategies for key raw materials. As a Bahraini who grew from within Alba, Al Baqali believes
that Alba’s growth and success depend heavily on the Company’s entrenched principles on Safety, Development of Human Capital, Social and Civic Responsibility as well as Community Development. Al Baqali places Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) matters at the top his priorities; his beliefs have translated into Alba establishing c.US$40 million first-of-its-kind Spent Pot Lining Treatment Plant Project, achieving the Aluminium Stewardship Initiative (ASI) Performance Certification, setting-up a Fish Farm at the Calciner & Marine Operations amongst many other initiatives.

Abdulla Habib was appointed as Chief Operation Officer at Aluminium Bahrain B.S.C.(Alba) in December 2018. He was appointed as Director of Reduction Line 6 Start-up in July 2017 and prior to this, he was Director of Reduction Lines and Services since February 2015. Dr. Abdulla Joined Alba as Trainee Engineer and during his 27 years onboard, Dr. Habib has grown in Alba and held the roles of Superintendent Reduction Line, R&D Manager, Reduction Lines Manager, Customers Technical Support Manager and Director Reduction Lines and Services. He also played a vital role in improving safety performance in Alba operations and has contributed significantly in increasing metal production in Alba to 1,561,222 metric tonnes in 2022 by aligning the teams, driving innovative ideas and introducing a higher efficiency culture among workforce.
Dr. Abdulla is a member of many international committees related to the Aluminium Industry like The Minerals, Metals & Material Society (TMS) and The International Committee for Study of Bauxite, Alumina and Aluminium (ICSOBA).
An MBA from ESSEC/French Arabian School, he holds a B.Sc. in Chemical Engineering with first honor class as well as a PhD in Chemical Engineering & Masters in Aluminium Smelting from University of New South Wales, Australia.

Mark Ashwin is a Bechtel Principal Vice President with 25 years’ experience in project management, engineering management, process engineering design and construction management of refineries, petrochemicals, and gas oil separation plants.
He is a qualified chemical engineer and a recognized Fellow of the Institute of Chemical Engineers. Mark was most recently Bechtel’s Operations Manager for NEOM, based in KSA.
He has recently been reassigned specifically for Ma’aden Phosphate 3 and is based in Riyadh. Prior to Mark’s role on NEOM, he led Bechtel’s London Execution Unit where he had operational oversight for all oil, gas and chemicals projects executed by Bechtel in the Middle East, Europe and Asia.
Prior to that, Mark was a Project Manager on the Reliance Jamnagar Refinery petrochemicals and gasification complex – the largest and most complex integrated oil, gas and chemicals refinery in the world. In this role, Mark was responsible for a professional workforce of over 900 staff. Mark has worked on Jamnagar several times throughout his career progressing from Principal Engineer to Senior Project Manager, and finally Program Manager.
Other relevant experience to Ma’aden Phosphate 3 includes Mark’s role as Project Manager for completions and handover of Gasco’s OGDIII onshore gas plant in Abu Dhabi, and his role as Project Manager on Takreer’s Carbon Black and Delayed Coker project. In the latter role, Mark was responsible for the execution of the FEED where he coordinated the integration of eight technology licensor packages.
